Mission Statement The mission of Honors Academy at YW High is to equip all 9 &endash; 12 grade students with the literacy skills necessary for the 21st century. Skills such as the ability to read, write, speak articulately, and use information with clarity and precision, as well as the ability to participate responsibly in the "real world" are addressed with each student. YW-High's objective is to work with both high-risk students and with students who want to graduate from high school early with the help of an accelerated program. Consistent with the vision to seek and partner with community organization, Honors Academy and YW High School have joined forces to impact today's teen culture. As a faith-based organization focused exclusively on the support of today's teens, Destiny World Outreach Center's impact on drug and gang activity is significant. By partnering with Honors Academy to create YW High School, these two organizations have increased the ability to serve this population.
Educational Program Description With both high-risk students and with students who want to graduate from high school early with the help of an accelerated program, and achievement through accredited curriculum. The school provides self-paced curriculum with most work being completed using the latest in educational computer software. Honors Academy teachers provide individualized attention to each student's academic, emotional, vocational, and personal needs. The curriculum at YouthWave High includes a full range of courses customarily provided in traditional public schools, including all core subjects and a variety of popular electives. Formal class instruction is divided into morning and afternoon sessions, with each session lasting four (4) hours. This flexible schedule allows students to attend classes in a non-traditional setting.
Students Served The Honors Academy YouthWave High campus serves students in grades 8 &endash; 12.
Educational Program Enhancement The Honors Academy at YW High School , through its partnership with YouthWave church, encourages faith-based programs to address the needs of the whole student, and offer credit for extra-curricular activities involving dramatic presentations, theatre, and video technology. Additionally, YW High would like to design a mentoring program to further encourage students, where assigned mentors would spend time with a student to build a relationship where a student would not hesitate to contact his or her mentor in an emergency situation. |
